How to Spot a Fake Handbag

By: Brian Cliette

With the variety of handbags available in the market, it is really a difficult task to distinguish the right quality of product is being offered to you and the handbags you have selected is one of the genuine one and not fake. Many times a number of retailers are caught selling fake handbags and sometimes attract penalty and fines and most of the times banned from selling of the brand.

If you have a plan to purchase a handbag, and want to know how to spot a fake handbag, you should first see the quality of the handbag very carefully. The material quality is one of the primary importance and a fake supplier or manufacturer will always use secondary material for manufacturing the handbag. It is therefore will give you an idea about fakeness of the product.

Nowadays even fake handbags are available in good leather quality; however these can easily be distinguished from the original handbags.Stitching and finishing quality is also poor in fake handbags and you can easily distinguish this parameter from the standard handbags. You must look for stitching inside the bag or inside the pockets and you can easily look for any fault, if it is a fake handbag. These stitching differences may not be visible from outside and should therefore be carefully looked for.

In addition to the stitching, you should also look for labels on the handbags. It is the label only, where you can identify the difference as well as spelling mistakes, logo change or logo design misspell. The label should be carefully studied and the position of the logo should also be checked. In fake handbags, these label quality is made poor and the attachment of the labels to the handbag also show poor in stitching.

Original branded handbags comes with attractive packing and the fake manufacturer or suppliers are not able to match these packaging attractive and therefore can easily be identified as fake handbags. With all these simple steps keeping in mind we can take a decision about the fakeness of the handbags and can save a lot of money.

How To Keep Your Handbag Always Look Good

By: Pisan K.

Designer Handbags from Melie Bianco

For someone who has bought a brand name luxurious handbag may be quite desperate to find the way how to deliver proper can and maintenance it. There is because luxurious and expensive hand is the huge amount of long term investment. As most of these brand names hand bag is made from leather and this could make many women tired when caring their favorite handbag. This is because leather is the material that is prone to damage from spills, stains, and even the weather. However, leather is only a kind of material that could last longer than any other type if they are properly maintained. The following article described about the way to give proper care for your leather luxurious handbag.

The most important factor could damage your leather handbag is whether conditions. Both humidity and dryness are great natural enemies of leather. Apart from avoid not keeping your handbag away from these danger conditions, you have to use oil or commercial leather conditioners to maintain the proper level of moisture in the leather. Without these conditioners, leather may dry and cracks even though it is kept and neutral temperature. The proper frequency of using conditioner is probably once a week, but it is also depends on the common whether in your area. Apply too often conditioner provides no harmful to leather surface so you may apply more frequent, but once a week is really enough. One thing that you have to be careful is that do not leave your handbag start to distress and you start to use conditioner, because it could be too late.

Water is another thing that may harmful to your handbag. Even though leather already has great ability to resist from wet but you still have to be careful not to let your handbag directly touch with water. But if your handbag becomes wet, use air dryer to fry it as quickly as possible. You have to use lowest speed of hair dryer, otherwise the high degree of heat may destroy the leather structure. Do not let the bag dry without using hair dryer, because it could take longer and this will make damp accumulate on the leather skin then moan will finally appear. Keep the bag away from heat sources and be sure that it is stuffed with tissues. Condition the handbag once while it is still damp and again after it is completely dry. After you can make sure that the bag is completely dry, remove all stuff from the bag and stuff it with small amount of tissue paper to maintain its shape and dry it again in the well-ventilation room for about 10 minutes.

In fact, stains probably the thing that easiest to clean but it could be also harmful to your handbag if you clean it in the wrong way. The regular dust and stain usually can be cleaned by damp soft cloth or soft sponge. However, the stain is much and quite difficult to clean, you may use a lightweight scouring pad, but you have to do it with extreme caution to avoid scratching the leather.

Love at First Sight: Melie Bianco

Written by Sarah

Recently I fell in love. I feel in love with a
handbag and the handbag’s name was Melie Bianco.

Then I saw the price, and I knew this was a forever kind of deal (well, maybe more like a summer romance type thing, but still, I was impressed).

Melie Bianco handbags are trendy, yet inexpensive so you can look good for a few seasons, then move on to the next best thing.

I found this Western Fringe Tote on the Little Blossom website. The bag is $42.00, faux suede, comes in many colors, and has FRINGE!

I’m a big fan of the mustard color (would match nicely to those Mia boots I just bought…), but it also comes in maroon, kelly green, and various chocolate shades. This particular site is out of the turquoise color, but with a little surfing around the interwebs, you can probably find it somewhere else online. So check out this tote, and other styles by Melie Bianco, there are tons of unique, and inexpensive bags to choose from!

MORE ABOUT Memorial Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May (observed in 2008 on May 26). It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it was expanded to include those who died in any war or military action. One of the longest standing traditions is the running of the Indianapolis 500, which has been held in conjunction with Memorial Day since 1911. It is also traditionally viewed as the beginning of summer by many, for many schools are dismissed around Memorial Day.

Many people observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries and memorials. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. US Eastern time. Another tradition is to fly the U.S. flag at half-staff from dawn until noon local time. Volunteers place a U.S. flag upon each gravesite located in a National Cemetery.

Many politicians and community leaders give speeches at community gatherings on Memorial Day.In addition to remembrance, Memorial Day is also a time for picnics, family gatherings, and sporting events. Some Americans also view Memorial Day as the unofficial beginning of summer and Labor Day as the unofficial end of the season. The national Click it or ticket campaign ramps up beginning Memorial Day weekend, noting the beginning of the most dangerous season for auto accidents and other safety related incidents. The USAF "101 Critical days of summer" begin on this day as well. Some Americans use Memorial Day to also honor any family members who have died, not just servicemen.

Flags flying at Fort Logan National Cemetery during Memorial Day 2006.Memorial Day formerly occurred on May 30, and some, such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), advocate returning to this fixed date, although the significance of the date is tenuous. The VFW stated in a 2002 Memorial Day Address, "Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined the very meaning of the day. No doubt, this has contributed a lot to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day."

Following the end of the Civil War, many communities set aside a day to mark the end of the war or as a memorial to those who had died. Some of the places creating an early memorial day include Charleston, South Carolina; Boalsburg, Pennsylvania; Richmond, Virginia; Carbondale, Illinois; Columbus, Mississippi; many communities in Vermont; and some two dozen other cities and towns. These observances eventually coalesced around Decoration Day, honoring the Union dead, and the several Confederate Memorial Days.

Decoration Day, c. 1900. "You bet I'm goin' to be a soldier, too, like my Uncle David, when I grow up."According to Professor David Blight of the Yale University History Department, the first memorial day was observed in 1865 by liberated slaves at the historic race track in Charleston. The site was a former Confederate prison camp as well as a mass grave for Union soldiers who had died while captive. A parade with thousands of freed blacks and Union soldiers was followed by patriotic singing and a picnic.

The official birthplace of Memorial Day is Waterloo, New York. The village was credited with being the birthplace because it observed the day on May 5, 1866, and each year thereafter, and because it is likely that the friendship of General John Murray, a distinguished citizen of Waterloo, and General John A. Logan, who led the call for the day to be observed each year and helped spread the event nationwide, was a key factor in its growth.

General Logan had been impressed by the way the South honored their dead with a special day and decided the Union needed a similar day. Reportedly, Logan said that it was most fitting; that the ancients, especially the Greeks, had honored their dead, particularly their heroes, by chaplets of laurel and flowers, and that he intended to issue an order designating a day for decorating the grave of every soldier in the land, and if he could he would have made it a holiday.

Logan had been the principal speaker in a citywide memorial observation on April 29, 1866, at a cemetery in Carbondale, Illinois, an event that likely gave him the idea to make it a national holiday. On May 5, 1868, in his capacity as commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, a veterans' organization, Logan issued a proclamation that "Decoration Day" be observed nationwide. It was observed for the first time on May 30 of the same year; the date was chosen because it was not the anniversary of a battle. The tombs of fallen Union soldiers were decorated in remembrance of this day.

Many of the states of the U.S. South refused to celebrate Decoration Day, due to lingering hostility towards the Union Army and also because there were very few veterans of the Union Army who lived in the South. A notable exception was Columbus, Mississippi, which on April 25, 1866 at its Decoration Day commemorated both the Union and Confederate casualties buried in its cemetery.
The alternative name of "Memorial Day" was first used in 1882, but did not become more common until after World War II, and was not declared the official name by Federal law until 1967 . On June 28, 1968, the United States Congress passed the Uniform Holidays Bill, which moved three holidays from their traditional dates to a specified Monday in order to create a convenient three-day weekend and for the first time recognized Columbus Day as a federal holiday. The holidays included Washington's Birthday (which evolved into Presidents' Day), Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. The change moved Memorial Day from its traditional May 30 date to the last Monday in May. The law took effect at the federal level in 1971 . After some initial confusion and unwillingness to comply at the state level, all fifty states adopted the measure within a few years, although Veterans Day was eventually changed back to its traditional date. Ironically, most corporate businesses no longer close on Columbus Day or Veterans Day, and an increasing number are staying open on President's Day as well. The holiday has endured as one where most businesses stay closed because it marks the beginning of the "summer vacation season" (similar to neighboring Canada's Victoria Day, which occurs on the prior Monday).

Recession proof online shopping designer handbags

by Anna Miller

With all the talk about recession issues there’s one thing you can depend upon no matter what shape the economy. Online shopping saves you time, money and stress. At close to $4 a gallon, gasoline is not worth buying to drive around town. It is easier to sit at your computer and get everything you need. Save that gas money and use it to buy yourself something.

One of the great things about shopping online is 24 hour 7 days a week availability. And, with the help of search engines like Google, a person can get anything they want at prices much lower than what they would pay at the store.

Considering fuel charges alone, one trip to the local shopping mall could be as much as you would pay for a new designer handbag by Melie Bianco or MURVAL. These designers create the high end look without the high end price tag. They also provide roomy versatile purses made of eco friendly materials. If there is one thing a woman can not live without it is an occasional new purse.

If leather is your choice of handbag, Elaine Turner makes a complete line of affordable, moderately priced women’s bags and accessories. Elaine is fairly new to the designer handbag scene. She started her handbag business in Dallas, Texas around 2000. Her designs are made exceptionally well, and the handbags have classic appeal among women.

All-in-all, to recession proof shopping habits, you must start thinking smart about using your budget wisely. An average trip to the mall or department store costs about $12 in gasoline, plus lunch about $16 (minimum), and parking in major cities anywhere from $6 - $15. That’s a hefty price to spend an afternoon browsing stores. The irony of the situation is most of the stores you browse are available online, too.

You may feel the day out is deserved after a long work week -- agreed. Treating yourself with a reward is motivating. That’s not the point, here. If the economy dictates our spending, then maybe we need to re-examine how we spend and where our money goes.

McDonalds just announced the introduction of a new flavored ice-coffee on tap in their fast food restaurants. I bet many of the Starbuck addicts at $5 a pop will try switching to the $1.89 McDonald coffee. It is a smart choice and an alternative without depriving yourself of something you enjoy. And, the savings is huge if you drive through or stop for coffee once per day.

Same is true with designer fashion accessories like handbags, purses, scarves, hats, jewelry, and tote bags. Why deprive yourself of something you want if there is a way to obtain the items at affordable prices. A fashion keepsake is something you will have forever. So, it only makes sense to find something affordable and adorable. Online shopping provides resources to get these special things at great discount prices.

It appears as though the designer industry is out of control. From handbags to watches to foot wear, shoes, boots, and just about anything with a designer label has gotten to an unreachable, unattainable price level. Some people advocate the rental of these high end designer items to give the appearance of affluence. It is somewhat discouraging to know people feel the need to put on a fake front by renting fashion. And, it doesn’t fit into the smart shopper attitude. Why rent and pay high fees when you can buy something of your own.

Actually, with all the transmitted diseases and germs spreading like viruses, who would want to use a purse an unknown person carried previously. Scary thought seeing as an average trip to the doctor is about $150, and if medication or a shot is needed, add another couple hundred dollars. Not worth the risk nowadays. Designer rental companies are a lot of hype and advertising without ROI (return of investment) for the customer – very high cost, extremely low value.

Well, it is time to go surfing -- nope, not to the ocean, directly to Google. You want a new designer handbag -- easily, type into the search box, Designer Handbag. A list of resources appears before your eyes. Browse the online stores, compare prices and choose wisely. Contact the website with questions. A good online store will respond to your questions promptly. Find those special places online to get the things you want without any overhead expenses. You can shop anytime day or night, save time, save money and do it all in the privacy of your own home.

Happy bargain hunting online is a great way to shop smart using your budget wisely.

Hobo International's Leather Chain Convertable Clutch Bag $70

from Baltimore Magazine
By Stacey Tiedge Alatzas

It’s all in the family at Hobo International—a popular handbag company based in Annapolis. Koren Ray Brewer’s brain is deep in spring this February afternoon—spring 2009. The senior vice president of merchandising and marketing for Hobo International handbags is in her office taking a call about the Annapolis-based company. She’s just left a meeting with her design team where they shared the bits of fabric, magazine pictures, and sketches they hope will forecast what kinds of handbags women will want to carry a year from now. “It’s an exciting process, but kind of scary trying to crystal ball what colors and trends will be important and how we will fit ourselves into what will be up and coming,” says Koren, 41.

But it’s not as scary as it used to be.

Since Koren helped her mother, Toni Ray, start the company in 1991 with the idea that women want handbags full of little pockets and compartments, they’ve built a loyal following. “Whether we’ve followed the runway trends 100 percent or not, we have a trust factor from customers that this is a look that’s right,” says Koren. Toni cashed in her IRA to start the company after losing her job of 20 years at Georgetown Leather Design in Washington, D.C. She says she decided to sell the company to Koren and her husband David Brewer two years ago because she knew it was time for it to grow. “People wanted to buy the business, but the kids said they really wanted it,” says Ray, 67, talking by phone from her home with a view of the ocean in Miami’s South Beach.

Since taking the helm, Koren and her husband David Brewer have aimed the company, long known for its fashionable function, toward becoming a lifestyle brand. “I think we’re definitely on track for big things, for growth,” says David, 44, the company’s president. The belts and eye wear products they’ve recently added have been well received. “I think we are going to grow this into a lifestyle brand that will include other categories like footwear and apparel.”

In Hobo’s first year of business, sales reached $400,000. This past year, annual sales exceeded $30 million. They have 42 employees, showrooms in New York City, Los Angeles, and Atlanta and their bags are sold in Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and specialty stores throughout the U.S., the U.K., Japan, and Canada. Along the way, they ramped up the fashion, but they never lost the function. Hobo’s Director of Design Martha Radford, 55, first met Toni when she wandered into Georgetown Leather Design in the 70’s to buy a handbag and ended up taking a job there. Radford joined Hobo in the mid-90’s and brought innovations that beat some of the big names to market. “We started with wristlets before people were doing those around 2000. We were the first people to do frames,” says Radford of the hinged and structured bags that often close with a clasp. “It seemed like the natural thing two years ago. I got the idea of frames from old vintage handbags.”

Today, Hobo’s double frame clutches in hot orange and metallic python print share display space with familiar names like Coach, Kate Spade, and Botkier at the Towson Nordstrom. Hobo bags have been photographed adorning stars like Eva Longoria Parker and Sarah Jessica Parker. But the brand doesn’t bank on flash. “They’re very functional. They’re understated,” says Toni. “We don’t hang Hobo tags off of them. We like to have the style, look, and quality that say Hobo.”

And while the price of some of Hobo’s competitors flirt with luxury levels, the average price of a Hobo bag is between $200 and $250. “They fill in well between my really high-end more expensive pieces where someone might not want to spend $500 on a handbag, but is willing to spend $200 or less,” says Form owner Aimee Bracken, who carries Hobo bags in her Hampden boutique. “I like that when mom comes in with her daughter, she can get her daughter a Hobo bag while mom gets a $600 Vera Wang dress.”

But she also likes their colors and function. She owns one of Hobo’s Sadie wallets, a long wallet with a tiny retro coin purse that tucks into an inside pocket. “Oh my gosh, I love that thing,” says Bracken. “My change stays in that coin purse perfectly.” Fern Elliott of Lilac Bijoux carries the Hobo line in her Baltimore and Annapolis accessory stores and a Hobo clutch in her daily life. “Once you have one, you just want to keep it,” she says.

Hobo has for many, many years been a well-kept secret,” says Koren of the company that has done almost no advertising. “When you find a customer who is passionate about Hobo, they really are passionate about it.” Koren is wrapping things up this Friday afternoon, getting ready to take her husband and two boys Luca, 7, and Theo, 5, to join her mother on a vacation in Miami. “I miss having her here on a daily basis,” Koren says of Toni who recently married long-time friend Wallace Shaw and now divides her time between Florida and Annapolis. But she is still always available with advice. “I check in with her all the time,” says Koren. “She’s still involved in strategic decisions.”

Toni says she thinks her children are doing fine on their own. “Things are organized now, and that was never true with me,” she says. Koren remembers when her mother was learning the business at Georgetown Leather Design. She would spend Saturday afternoons playing under the workbench where they made the belts and sandals. “I’d keep busy playing with the leather tools,” she says.

David has been with Hobo from the beginning. He met Koren when they were both working at the Middleton Tavern in downtown Annapolis. David had just returned to his family’s home in Annapolis after a 10-year sojourn in Greece where he earned a degree in marketing from The American University of Athens and ran a hotel and restaurant. Koren had just graduated from Northwestern University where she had studied theater design and acting and hoped to direct movies someday.

Initially, David’s job was keeping “an eye on the bottom line,” he says. “Toni was the creative and selling force.” He kept a close watch on their pricing structure and the deals they made. But his mechanical skills are the ones that might have been most useful early on.

Toni and Koren needed a way to get their early products to trade shows in New York. David found a 1970’s Chevy van listed for $150 in the local paper. He pulled Hobo International’s first corporate asset out of the woods behind someone’s house with four flat tires and a cracked engine compartment.

“It was 150 degrees in the summertime and freezing in the winter,” he says, “So much heat and exhaust would come through this thing, we had to drive with the windows down.” They called it “The Heater” and during those early years it hauled them and the display booths they’d painted with a Mexican hacienda-theme in Toni’s garage to the trade shows.

The couple loved the 15 years they spent working out of Toni’s renovated cottage home on the Chesapeake Bay. “There were as many as 10 of us working in the dining room with computers and bags stacked up to the ceiling,” says Koren. Her mother’s home was also the scene of their 1999 formal garden wedding—an event they were finally able to squeeze in between trade shows. Now they live in a house just two doors down from Toni in a Chesapeake Bay resort community. “Being in Annapolis gives us a real world perspective from a design standpoint,” says David. Hobo’s corporate offices now reside in an unsightly two-story building on Bay Ridge Avenue, a few miles from downtown.

Ideas for bag designs come from things they see going on in the market in the U.S. and from places like France, Italy, and Japan where trends germinate early. The spring line hitting stores now includes an edgy design with straps that criss-cross and antique silver hardware. But the line also has soft feminine bags with touches right out of ready-to-wear like ruching, ruffles, and pleats.

For the upcoming fall collection, Radford says she was inspired by a trip to Philadelphia last summer to see the King Tut exhibit. The turquoise, cobalt blue, and metallic hues resonated with her. “The Egyptians had a very forward color palette. You just get a sense of what’s happening in color just by looking all around you.”

The forecast for spring 2009 will bring her back a little closer to where she began, creating bags out of natural leathers for the hip denizens of 1970’s Georgetown. “Natural leathers are coming back in a big way,” says Radford. “There’s sort of a naked and whole sort of artisan look that will be important along with color.” They might beat the big names to market with these trends. But that isn’t their aim. “I really think that what we go for is the essence of fashion that is attainable, an everyday kind of fashion that works well with your existing wardrobe,” says Koren. “The lifestyle is about helping you to complete your look, but by your own rules.”

Melie Bianco Handbags Has Spring Covered!

This season keeps the momentum high when it comes to handbag trends and we couldn't be happier. A lot of the styles from last year (metallic, over-sized and clutch) continue to be on the list but have evolved to fit in with the new looks. We adore many aspects of the Melie Bianco collection but most of all we can't get over how affordable and chic her line continues to be which is why we don't have to settle for picking up just one of the trends but can sport all the looks for the price of one designer purse, see for yourself:

Color Craze
It's time to retire the grays and blacks and brighten up that wardrobe and it's easy to do with the candy colored bags that have taken over fashion magazines. Although we usually stick to the basics, we love how easy a yellow, green or blue handbag from Melie Bianco updates our ensemble instantly.

Out of all the colorful hues, yellow seems to be the favored color so expect to see a lot of yellow bags, shoes and jewelry when the weather warms up. We love the look of the MELIE BIANCO Shirred Doctor Bag, especially the frame bag shape and pleated body. Melie Bianco purse measures about 16 x 12 x 4.5 inches with strap length of about 22 inches.

Melie Bianco Accordion Pleat Shoulder Bag

Another of one of the colorful creations from Melie Bianco, the Accordion Pleat shoulder bag is a fresh change from black and brown. Handbag measures about 15 x 10 x 6 inches. The double handles measure about 15 to 17 inches long.

Clutch is a must
Despite the popularity of large handbags, the clutch is here to stay because sometimes more isn't enough. Clutches aren't just great for evenings out, they are nice to carry when you want to lighten the load and still look good. Plus now you can find clutches that look like day bags instead of only having to choose from the fancy styles (think sequins and satin).

Melie Bianco Muli-Color Graphic Clutch Bag

Surprisingly black and white is a big trend of spring, despite the color fever, because let's face it, the fashion world will always have room for classic designs that go great with everything. We can't wait to pair this Melie Bianco clutch with a red dress and gray shoes or a white dress and red shoes. Either way, we know we'll get compliments on at least the bag (but hopefully our entire ensemble). Melie Bianco handbag measures about 14 x 8 x 2.

All of the Melie Bianco handbags featured are under $50, click here to shop for Melie Bianco handbags now!

How To Find The Perfect Handbag

By Mary Olaya

Let's be honest. These days there are hundreds of
handbag styles to choose from. So as a consumer, where do you begin? Do you follow the fashion experts? Does the latest It handbag necessarily mean you must have that bag this season? Do you choose one that compliments your figure and works well with your wardrobe? Or do you choose quality with an affordable price tag? Well, the answer is Yes - for all of the above. But there are also other factors to consider too.

Trying on a
handbag is just as important as trying on clothes. Where your handbag rests will actually draw the most attention. If someone is glammed up, the first detail others will notice is accessories, most likely your handbag . A handbag can make or break your look. The most important factor to consider when choosing the right handbag for your body type is Size and Shape. That choice is more difficult for tiny and shorter ladies.

Small and classic
handbag shapes generally work best. Focus on smaller handbags that fit tightly and comfortably underneath your shoulder. It's all about proportion. Stay away from large, rectangular shapes. Small shoulder handbags are a great alternative. They work perfectly with figure proportions and add length to the body and arms. More defined round shapes, such as the gaucho & silverado styles, work too.

Also consider the handles and their positioning. The handle drop should not have too much. A handbag that sits below your hips will make you appear shorter. If you need a sling/messenger bag, be sure the shoulder strap is adjustable and let the bag rest near your hips and no lower. Avoid oversized, bulky bags unless you need an overnight or weekender. Big sizes will not flatter your shape.

Another perfect alternative is clutches. Go for different colours and styles. Clutches are versatile during the day and will carry all your necessities in the evening. There are also limitations for taller ladies. Although they have a height advantage, some styles still won't work. If you're tall or slim, your long limbs work well for more rectangular and square structured shapes, such as motorcycle and paddington styles.

If you're not already a fan of oversized bags, get cracking. Oversized handbags are definitely - In. Fashion has embraced the oversized trend in handbags and clothing lately. What's the best tip? It's what our parents told us for years. Less is more. So consider a bag that's not too oversized. Don't go over the top. Go for box styles or rectangular shapes. The biggest blunder many make with these styles is practicality. Never carry an oversized bag empty. Oversized bags look flat and empty with just your wallet and keys inside. Use these bags as a useful shopping tote. Now, that's just plain easy.

Never let an oversized shoulder bag sit pass your hips. Straps should be short or adjustable. Not only will the bag look better, but its weight won't put pressure on your lower back. It's important for you to move comfortably and easily. Let the handbag speak for itself. Do the inside compartments hold all your necessary essentials? Do you like its style and overall look? In the end, you have to be happy. After all, a handbag should be a girl's best accessory, not a burden.

How to care for your designer purse

By Gabriel J. Adams

Purchasing a designer handbag is an investment - in your own personal style, as well as in the heirloom status that a quality handbag can provide. But, like all investments, you need to properly protect and care for your new designer handbag. Keep reading this article for tips on how to care, clean and maintain a designer purse.

The first thing you should think about is storage. By always storing your designer handbag in a dust bag cover or even a pillow case, you will increase its longevity by years. Your bag is less likely to get scratched, chewed, spilled on, or scuffed. If you're storing your designer bag for a long period, unclip any straps or metal pieces that could leave dents in the leather.

Secondly, think about what you put inside your designer purse. Makeup can leave marks, oily creams can leave stains, spilled water can damage the leather, and pens or keys can puncture the lining. Try keeping potentially harmful purse contents in separate containers within your purse, or using a 'purse protector,' a popular product designed to act as a barrier between your purse and its contents.

Finally, you should clean and treat your purse each year. You can have this done by a professional or try doing it yourself. Some designer bag owners use only a simple, non-abrasive, damp cloth to wipe down their bags. Others treat their bags with water-guard and special leather cleanser. If you're unsure of how to clean your designer handbag, try contacting the manufacturer for their suggested method.

By treating your designer handbag with the utmost care, you will be increasing its lifespan by years, and allowing you to see the beauty of your bag as it ages. Remember, every investment should be protected.

The Hobo Bag

MELIE BIANCO designer handbag S8-27K V trimmed gathered hobo shoulder bag designer purse.
from BagFancy

One of the popular trends this season is "go big"... go Hobo!

The Beauty of the Hobo Bag
The classic definition of the hobo bag is a large crescent-shaped shoulder bag. Lately though, the term "hobo" has been used to describe any large bag which hangs from your shoulder and has a main compartment closure (unlike the "tote" which is normally open top). Hobo bags are popping up in the bright colors of the season, the classic colors, animal prints, adorned with dangling sequins... you name it!

Not only are we offered fantastic prints, patterns, and styles to choose from, but the hobo bag is roomy and comfortable! We no longer need to leave anything at home and we won't struggle to carry it about - finally fashion and practicality are hand-in-hand. It doesn't get much better!

Too Much of a Good Thing...
OK, so you do have to remember one thing - the hobo bag IS big! A crazy pattern or bright color is sure to get you noticed - but it might distract the eye from your trendy new dress, or your nice new hair style, or your perfect makeup. Opt for a more classic solid color for your hobo bag if you are wearing bright colors or want to highlight something specific - it won't battle for attention. And vice versa, use a fun hobo bag to add some dazzle to an otherwise subdued look.

Another note of caution if you are a small-framed woman - some of the very large hobo bags may make you look even smaller or may make the hobo bag look extra big and disproportionate. As with all accessories, choose a bag which will complement you and your style!

Have fun with the hobo trend this year! I know I am happy to toss my PDA, wallet, bottled water, dog treats, gum, iPod, and keys all in to one bag AND still be in fashion!

Designer Handbag Supply and Demand Shortage

by Bridget Wright

My blogger friend and marketer extraordinaire, Susan Gunelius over at Brandcurve, wrote this insightful post on manufacturer’s manipulating supply and demand on designer handbags. While the news story does invite speculation of the REAL reason why manufacturers limit the number of handbag purchases, I of course have my own speculation. Being a designer handbag connoisseur of sorts, I have to wonder why if these wonderfully and tastefully made handbags by top-notch designers is so great, why not let everyone have a piece of the action?Handbag manufacturers (and businesses in general) have one goal: that is to make money, period.

Companies that care will provide you with great customer support and generous customer communications, but their bottom line is to ensure that the bottom line is black and stays black. If the manufacturers simply allow other individuals (resellers) to buy unlimited amounts of their product and resell them at lower costs, the value of the item is driven down and the desirability is watered down, making the “gotta-have-one” feeling go away for the money-in-hand consumer. If I were a handbag manufacturer, I would do the same thing. Having your product hard to get or priced very high makes it very much worth everyone wanting to have one and scrambling to get the last one.

For designer handbags, it’s an absolute genius idea in making that particular product highly desirable.I love most all top designer label handbags and desire to have one of each…one day. But until then, I will look, learn and wait for sales to happen or for my favorite consignment shop to get one for me. Therefore, I don’t suppose I really care whether the demand is real or manufactured, so long as I can get my hands on one. If it is a manufactured or hyped-up desire for one, what is your feeling about the supply and demand in getting one?

Lust for luxury labels lifts fashion house

By Elizabeth Tilley

LAST week, in the grand penthouse of a new Kangaroo Point riverside apartment block, a select and very fashionable crowd gathered to welcome one of the world's most luxurious fashion brands to Brisbane. A selection of handbags, shoes and other leathergoods from the spring/summer 2008 collection by Italian fashion house, Bottega Veneta is now stocked in Fortitude Valley designer accessories boutique, Jean Brown Gallerie. The crowd could barely contain their excitement as they sipped champagne and swanned around the room carrying their designer handbags and sporting Miu Miu pumps.

They had come to listen to Amy Tye, president of the global brand, speak about the lengthy and involved leather weaving process involved in making a suede-lined, lamb or deer skin handbag, and they left feeling less guilty about their desire to pay $5000 for one. For the increasing number of young luxury brand buyers in Brisbane, or those wanting to own something by Bottega Veneta without spending a small fortune, there's always the leather mobile phone strap, also worn as a bracelet, which retails for about $180.

The launch revealed a side to Brisbane that many people would not know existed, but which is rapidly gaining strength, partly due to the city's new style queen, Amber Long. Thanks to Long, and her husband, Matthew, who opened Jean Brown Gallerie in May 2007 and recently its clothing equivalent, Jean Brown Robe, names such as Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo are no longer only familiar to Sex and the City fans. And they have big plans for the expansion of Jean Brown into a fashion empire, starting as soon as next month, when they open a third boutique in New Farm.

"It won't be a Jean Brown store – it will be a very different concept for Brisbane," Amber says, without revealing any more. Amber says the Jean Brown Group is constantly approached by national retail developers looking to house a Jean Brown boutique in their development. "The branding's so strong now that (Jean Brown is) seen as a leading brand that will attract other retailers to a development," she says. Fashion houses are also interested in forming partnerships with the Jean Brown Group to open high fashion, mono-brand stores on their behalf. "That's one of a whole series of opportunities we're looking at," Amber says.

According to Matthew, it is not highly unusual for one of their regular customers to spend $15,000 in one transaction in one of their stores. Better-known brands such as Manolo Blahnik and Miu Miu have been big hits with Queenslanders in Jean Brown Gallerie, Matthew says, mostly because of their widely acknowledged reputation. He says it's too early to comment on the success of Jean Brown Robe since it opened in December. "We expect that brands like Chloe, Miu Miu and Yves Saint Laurent will sell well," he says.

"Miu Miu has a strong following here and its ready-to-wear collection arrives in store this week." Being the only store in Australia to stock YSL since the luxury label's Sydney store closed down in 2003, inquiries have been flooding in from all over the country. "We had a lady buy two different sizes of the one YSL top the other day."

Amber describes Jean Brown Robe as a representation of the most important internationally recognised brands that would be found in leading department stores overseas. The current collections by Chloe, Yves Saint Laurent, Thakoon and Miu Miu hanging on the racks in the new store are bursting with colours such as fuchsia, yellow, red and bold prints – perfect for Queensland's sunny disposition. Soon, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's fashion label, The Row, will also be in stock.

"Queensland women know these labels and want them in their wardrobes as soon as collections become available, not the following season," Amber says. While both stores have a reasonably broad client base, Matthew admits that 80 per cent of their business comes from 20 per cent of their clients. When Amber goes on her twice-yearly buying trips to Paris, London and New York, she always keeps particular customers in mind, but trends are her primary focus and she has to be careful to buy clothes and accessories that suit Queensland's unique climate. "She has to be really selective about what to buy," Matthew says.

Labels to know
Thakoon (pronounced as it sounds; Thak-oon): The label by award-winning New York designer Thakoon Panichgul is being offered for the first time in Australia at Jean Brown Robe. The collection is based around the art of functionality while incorporating pixilated prints. Actor Kate Bosworth is his muse.

Bottega Veneta (pronounced Bott-ayga Ven-eta), below: Launched in 1966 as a family business of luxury leather accessories, this label is distinguished by its timeless, ultra-luxurious designs. Labelled only on the inside, its handbags boast classic clean lines and soft leathers.

Chloe: The Spring/Summer 2008 collection from this notable French fashion house features a fresh mix of ethereal mid-calf dresses in glacial white, while encompassing elements of drama, heightened by bold fabric panels in vivid tones of purple and navy as well as fresh seasonal colours such as egg-yellow and fuchsia.

Yves Saint Laurent (pronounced Eevs Sayn Loron): Legendary designer Stefano Pilati steered this French fashion house towards modern elegance and took a creative approach to tailoring, promoting new volumes and asymmetrical lines. Jean Brown Robe is the only Australian retailer of Yves Saint Laurent clothing.

alldressedup: Offered for the first time in Australia, this Singaporean label devised a collection that was inspired by Chinese lanterns and boasts soft smocks and ruched detailing.

Lanvin (pronounced Lon-van): The world's oldest ongoing fashion house is enjoying a rapid resurgence in popularity due to the exceptional style of designer Alber Elbaz.

Miu Miu (pronounced Myoo-myoo): Created by Prada as a cutting-edge label and is well-known globally for extraordinary designs as well as the use of gorgeous materials.

5 More Things To Consider When Purchasing A Designer Handbag

by Bridget Wright
I ran across this site that gave 5 things to consider when purchasing a designer handbag. Well, just to add my .02 to it, I came up with 5 MORE things to consider…blah…blah…blah.

1. Does it look great with EVERY and ANYthing you wear? This is important, especially for women who don’t like to change purses everytime they wear an outfit. If the purse is versatile, it’s a definite plus for me.

2. Is there an exchange for return policy? Again, important if you’re not 100% sure if you’re going to like the bag, for whatever reason. Tastes do wane for certain styles. You want to be happy with your purcahse, right? With a return policy, the retailer is saying, “We’re not happy until you are happy!”

3. Is the label or the bag manufacturer in a prominent place on the bag? Enough said.

4. Can it be ordered, purchased and returned all online? The convenience of ordering online can be wonderful for any situation and also offers the comfort and privacy AND time you need to really make good selections before investing so much money.

5. Do any of your friends have one just like it? If they do, go to the next choice, right?

These to me are very, very important considerations to examine when you’re about to make a big purchase like a designer handbag. Consider and weigh ALL options, but just make sure you’re happy, really happy with the bag that you do choose!

Miu Miu Takes Macau - DesignersLA Takes Melie Bianco!

DesignersLA Takes Melie Bianco!

from Women's Wear Daily

MACAU — The seas were choppy and chilly winds were blowing as guests boarded the chartered ferry from Hong Kong, but no one seemed to mind the weather when they arrived in Macau to see that Miu Miu had pulled out all of the stops for a fashion show and public relations exercise the likes of which this city had never seen before.
MIU MIU designer handbag black leather plisse tote RN0505 designer purse

Nearly 300 guests were invited to witness a first (and last) of its kind event when Miu Miu presented its spring collection in the Wynn Theater. It was the first production in the theater, as well as the last (casino owner Steve Wynn decided just weeks ago to remove the red velvet banquettes and tear down the stage in favor of additional private gambling rooms). Using innovative choreography and clever video projections, models paraded across the stage in Miu Miu's latest — eliciting delighted exclamations from the crowd of celebrities, socialites and press. And the whoops kept coming as dancers from Paris' famed Crazy House cabaret took the stage in an eye-popping finale.

Sebastian Suhl, chief executive officer of Prada Asia Pacific, said the idea behind the event was simply to promote Miu Miu. "This is only the second large event we have done for Miu Miu. The first was to open the store in The Landmark [in Hong Kong] in December '06. We wanted to do something that fits the collection for the spring-summer season and we wanted to do something special — and obviously location is very important. No other luxury brand has done anything in Macau — in at least five or six years and maybe even longer than that," said Suhl.

Although Miu Miu doesn't yet have a store in Macau, there were 25 million reasons for holding the party here. The enclave, once a sleepy Portuguese colony, is now better known as Las Vegas East, with a spate of major hotel-casino openings and a tremendous surge in visitors, mostly from Mainland China. The number of visitors reached 25 million last year and is expected to reach 40 million by 2010.

It's no surprise, then, that Miu Miu will have a store here by the middle of the year. "The [Asia-Pacific] business has grown tremendously, and it's sizeable," said Suhl. "Based on that and on the strength of the brand generally, what we're doing is aggressively expanding. The first expansion will be in Macau, with Miu Miu taking the current Prada store at Wynn," he said, noting that Prada will move to a location three times larger, also in Wynn. "Prada will have the largest location in Wynn," said Suhl, who is eager to take advantage of additional floor space. "We can bring in categories like ready-to-wear and men's wear and do shoes properly."

Currently, Miu Miu has eight locations in the region — four in Hong Kong, two in Taipei, one in Singapore and one in Jakarta — and Suhl is preparing to roll out the brand to new markets, including South Korea, Australia and possibly Kuala Lumpur. China is also in the cards. "The challenge for China for any brand is not only finding the right hardware and the right landlord, but also finding the right locations. There are many, many projects going on right now in China and we're evaluating all of them for both brands. Miu Miu is definitely not forgotten in China — you'll see Miu Miu stores there as well as in Korea," said Suhl.

He added that Miu Miu also is likely to expand its presence in Singapore and Taiwan. In most cases, Prada is either already in a market Miu Miu plans to enter or has concrete plans to enter it as well. This year, the Prada brand will open its second Kuala Lumpur location at the new Pavilion shopping mall. Still, Suhl insists Prada is not used to test markets before Miu Miu opens its own shops. "In Asia, customers and the press have understood that Miu Miu is a brand on its own. Part of that is the new concept we launched. Hong Kong is a great case in point. We have four really prime locations that are performing far beyond our expectations — ours and the landlords'," he said.

Any expansion, however, demands cash, which makes the much-anticipated, thrice-delayed launch of Prada Group's initial public offering that much more compelling. Prada Group spokesman Tomaso Galli said plans are moving ahead, albeit with an eye on the market. "In 2008 there are two windows of opportunity — the earliest one is in June-July and the other is in October-November," said Galli. "We said that, when we get closer to the date, we would evaluate if one of those two windows presents a good opportunity. So, we still haven't set a specific time for the IPO; it very much depends on market conditions."

While he declined to be more specific about timing, it's clear the group would like to go ahead in order to raise capital for its future growth in countries like China. "It's a good opportunity to take advantage of the momentum that all of our brands are having — obviously, if we want to further this expansion and development, we will need resources, and an IPO would give us resources to really invest even more than what we do now," said Galli. "But we're not forced to do it if the markets are in such a situation that it wouldn't be advisable. We're under no pressure at all."

Industry sources valued Prada at an estimated 4 billion to 5 billion euros, or $5.91 billion to $7.39 billion, at current exchange.

When pressed to evaluate market conditions, Galli replied: "The good thing is that, just as all of the optimism two months ago was too early, all the pessimism now is also too early. We'll see what happens in the next two months. Well go on, we'll do the work and we'll see," he said.
